Combos

Well, technically, each character has a separate combo string and attack. However, the most basic and common combo string every character has will be:

Basic Combo: Mash Square

Note: The controls used are of the PS controller.

However, did you know that you can extend your basic combo? All you need to do is Press Square 5 times and when the opponent gets knockback, follow up with dash and continue pressing Square again. It can be performed up to 3 times as shown below:

Basic Combo Extension: Square x5 + X + Square x5 + X + Square x5

Pretty cool, but we are just getting started.

Rush Chain Actions Or Combo Finishers

Each character has a different set of moves or Rush Chain Actions. Therefore, it is recommended to practice and learn your character moves which is super important. All the Rush Actions are listed below:

  • Flying Kicks: The overhead flurry of kicks.
  • Heavy Finishes: The gut punch which results in stunning the opponent.
  • Ki Blast Cannon: The Ki blast cannon that knocks your opponent back.
  • Rolling Hammer: The attack that turns your opponent 180 degrees.
  • Blaster Wave: The Ki Blaster that knocks your opponent back.
  • Rush Ki Waves: The rush ki wave that knocks your opponent back.

Essentially, these are all the Rush Chain Actions assigned differently for each character. Now, remember while performing combo strings, if you do the same combo for example: Flying Kicks + Flying Kicks. The combo will end with a knockdown.

However, you can chain the strings such as Flying Kicks + Heavy Finishes + Ki Blast Cannon + Rolling Hammer + Sweep Attack + Grab. The order does not need to be the same but that’s the general idea of doing combo in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Sweep Attacks

There are two variants of Sweep Attack i.e.

  • Sweep Attack: Square + Down Triangle.
  • Sweep Attack: Square + Up Triangle.

If you perform Sweep Attack and knock the opponent up using Up Triangle, you can follow up with X to teleport and continue your combos in mid-air.

  • Basic Sweep Combo: Square x3 + Up Triangle + X + Square x5 + Kamehameha / Super Blast
  • Extended Sweep Combo: Square x3 + Up Triangle + X + Square x3 + Down Triangle + Triangle + Triangle + Circle.
Advanced Combo

You must practice the Rush Chain Actions with a single character to get familiar with their moves. Now, as listed above, you can start with a simple Basic Combo Extension + Rush Chain Actions + Sweep Attack Follow-Up + Grab + Super Blast/Beam.

Instead of Grab, you can go for Basic Combo Extension + Rush Chain Actions + Extended Sweep Combo + Super Blast/Beam. The game allows so much versatility that you can create your own version of short-to-long combos that can deal devastating hits and damage.

To vanish mid-combo, you can press the Square and Guard button with left or right direction.

How To Dodge Back Shots Or Back Attack

This is not a stretch but positioning in this game matters the most. When you are facing your opponent straight in their face, then they have almost all the defensive stances or moves to block your attack such as:

  • Guard
  • Perception
  • Sonic Sway
  • Revenge Counter
  • Z Counter
  • Super Counter
  • Skills

However, if you manage to get behind your opponent, then they can only use Super Counter (Up Square) to get free from your intense beatdown. You cannot mash Super Counter, to break free instead, you need to time it correctly to perform Counter.
