During your exploration of Limbo in The Last Case Of Benedict Fox, you may come across entrances blocked by purple waterfalls. These waterfalls are actually ink that you need to disperse in order to proceed. To accomplish this, you will require a gun upgrade known as the “Bullet Upgrade” which can be obtained from the weaponsmith.
To create this upgrade for your flare gun, you will need an Owl Rifle and The Book Of Language. The Owl Rifle can be found in your mother’s Limbo, but to get there, you must first pass through dark rooms full of tentacles.

Once you have the Owl Rifle, you need to find all the missing pages of the ritual and unburnt pages in Father Limbo. You should then speak with the tattooist and other NPCs to find a way to translate these rituals. The tattooist will direct you to check both libraries in Limbo. There are two libraries: one inside your father’s Limbo, where you saved the tattooist, and the other in your mother’s Limbo, where you will find the snow globe.
After searching both libraries, you will discover a trail that you must follow, which will ultimately lead you to the Book Of Language. Obtaining this item is a part of the main quest, and you cannot miss it unless you do not complete the main quest. Afterward, there is a quest that you must finish and exit the time loop to finally obtain the Book Of Language. You can then visit the weaponsmith and upgrade your flare gun.
Once you have upgraded your gun, you can switch between ink-clearing ammo or normal ammo using the “4” button on the keyboard or the “Left D-pad” on the controller. Before attempting to obtain the Owl Rifle, make sure you have a light source to explore the dark room. To disperse the ink you need to equip the special ammo and shoot at it to create a passage.
