At the beginning of the game, there are a few ways to obtain star coins in this game which are by completing quests, friendship quests, and clearing thorns. After learning five-star recipes, you can make those foods and sell them to earn coins. But the best way to get a chunk of coins at the beginning of the game is by catching rare fish.
Once you have unlocked the fishing rod, you will be able to catch fish from the ponds. Find the biggest pond in the meadows and look for the blue or golden ripples. Catching fish from these ripples will have a chance to get a rare fish. You can sell these fish for 550 coins or 600 coins. These ripples won’t appear all the time and are rare, so when you encounter one of these ripples take out your rod to catch the fish.

Any activities that you do in Dreamlight Valley such as farming, harvesting, foraging, fishing, and much more, you will gain some experience. Once you collect a certain amount of Experience your character will level up. To gain level faster, keep completing all the quests and friendship quests you will obtain from Disney Characters.
You can also find out about their favorite items or dish of the day by interacting with them and giving that as gifts. Keep giving them gifts that will increase your friendship level, after reaching levels 4 and 7 with certain characters you will receive 500 and 1k gold.
Note: To quickly reach friendship level 5 you need to just keep giving them flowers. No matter whichever flower you give, you will gain a lot of friendship points and quickly reach level 5.
