If you choose not to invite anyone into the Ark still the ending of the game will be the same.

Once you defeat one of the world eaters and visit Out-Of-Date at the root of the tree of life. There he will be sitting in an Ark waiting for the outcome of the world. No matter whichever path you choose light or dark, you have to leave the world using the Ark and Out-Of- Date will let you know that you can choose only 4 friends to accompany you.

During your journey towards saving or destroying the tree of life, you will be given choices, and based on the outcome of the choices your aura will be revealed to you. Depending on your aura the friends you meet during your journey might accept or reject your request to join you in the Ark
Making some dark choices will grant your dark aura while saving people and helping them around will gain you light aura. You can also become neutral by having a balance of light and dark aura. In this way, you can unlock all the Psi-powers.

You can notice some of the names appeared both in the dark and light aura because no matter whichever aura you have they will accept your request to join you in Ark. Now the choice is upon you whom you should invite by judging the character based on the interaction with them.
If you have a dark aura, some NPC will appreciate the way you handle things with the rival tribes by eliminating and love violence while the light aura people will not like it.
