To get the best horse you will need to visit the stable of Blackwater and Saint-Denis. if you don’t know these locations then don’t worry as you will visit the Blackwater in Epilogue and Saint Denis in Chapter 4 of the game.
You will be able to unlock better horses as you progress through the game. but if you compare the horses from Blackwater and Saint Denis. the horses from Blackwater will definitely be better but the problem is that they are only accessible during the endgame. so your only choice now is to get horses from Saint Denis.
Location Of Saint Denis – this stable is located in southwestern part of the map. you can see it on the map and locate it easily.

There are no particular horses in the game which are faster or better. the race, stats, and look of every horse are random. so you need to buy them according to their types.

Standard Handling Horse – it has medium Stamina and Medium Speed. this is an allrounder horse and can cover long distance and can also ramp up its speed to an average.
Race Handling Horse – it has low Stamina and Fast speed. if you like speed then this is your horse and if you are worried about the stamina then you can use Stamina Tonics which refills stamina easily but this is costly.
Elite Handling Horse – it has the best stamina and medium speed. an elite horse comes with best overall stamina and average speed. but as an elite also has the highest cost among all the other horses.
Horse Upgrades
Even if you do not own the best horse you can easily upgrade them with few items like getting Hooded Stirrups from stables and equipping it on your horse increase speed and acceleration by two points. but the also drain stamina quickly.
Stamina Tonics, you can also get this item from the stable and when used on the horse it instantly refills the horse’s stamina.
Horse Bonding In Red Dead Redemption 2
The horse bonding mechanics is one of the important aspects of the game which will affect you as you progress through the game.
There are 4 bonding levels per horse and if you are able to increase it then you will gain the following bonuses.
Level 1 – Increase horse Health and Stamina
Level 2 – can call horse from an increased distance. plus if you hold R1 and tap square to the rear.
Level 3 – the horse will be able to cross difficult terrain and deeper water. plus you can hold R1 and X while moving to sharp turn
Level 4 – Horse will become difficult to steal. plus you can hold square to perform piaffe while doing this if you press the left stick right or left you will drift.
How To Increase Bonding
Calm the horse – when your horse enters situations like combat with enemies and other animals then it gains stress. you need to press left stick or L3 while sitting on the horse to calm it down.
Reduce Stress – You need to ride the horse without putting it on stress or draining its stamina core. the best way to increase it is by placing a marker anywhere and let the automatic horse pilot ride you.
Feed the horse – you can get the horse food from the stable and then you can use the weapon wheel to select the food and feed the horse while standing still or while sitting on the horse. just remember that overfeeding can lead to negative effects.
Grooming – when your horse gets dirty, approach it and press L2/LT and then press left direction to brush/groom it.
