Data Mining Reveals EA Lied About Star Wars Battlefront 2 Cosmetics
Developer and Publisher EA’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 has managed to get themselves involved in one of the biggest controversy in the gaming community in 2017. due to their poor response to loot boxes and pay to win component it received massive backlash from fans and gamers.
To this controversy, they reduce the credit required for unlocking the characters and they also removed the microtransactions from the game temporarily but they have made it clear that they have no intention to remove loot boxes and in future will continue to incorporate microtransactions in their games.
The outrage caused it to become a news in mainstream media and to clarify the issue EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen at a conference talked about the issue. he was questioned about why there were weapon enhancements but no cosmetics reward in the game. to this, he said the following.
“The one thing we’re very focused on and they are extremely focused on is not violating the canon of Star Wars,” Jorgensen said. “It’s an amazing brand that’s been built over many, many years, and so if you did a bunch of cosmetic things, you might start to violate the canon, right? Darth Vader in white probably doesn’t make sense, versus in black. Not to mention you probably don’t want Darth Vader in pink. No offense to pink, but I don’t think that’s right in the canon.”
“So, there might be things that we can do cosmetically, and we’re working with Lucasfilm on that. But coming into it, it wasn’t as easy as if we were building a game around our own IP where it didn’t really matter. It matters in Star Wars, because Star Wars fans want realism. But Star Wars fans may also want to tailor things — a different colored lightsaber, things like that. So you might see some of that.”
Ok agreed nobody wants to see a Master Yoda with a pink lightsaber running around the map and Darth Vader in white color suit as it would not be justified with the canon of the Star Wars series.
But now data miners have extracted some new information about the game and have found that EA Star Wars Battlefront 2 has cosmetics reward for all the characters. YouTuber DylanRocket posted a new video where he showcases new skins for Han Solo, Lando, Leia, Rey and storm stoppers.
YouTuber Uninspired Zebra also released new video giving more details about hidden character customizations and unreleased arcade maps.
So EA has lied about the involvement of cosmetics in their game probably because it too would have come in shape of loot boxes. these skins and maps were not released in the game during it launch so EA might have been planning or are planning to release it in future.
