Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus Censored Hitler In German Edition
Publisher Bethesda and Developer Machine Games have released the latest first-person shooting game Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. the eight main entry and the sequel to the 2014’s The New Order take players into fictional America where Nazi regime has won the world war 2 and now it’s up to William “B.J.” Blazkowicz to liberate his country.
As always any game with Nazi theme somehow get into some sort of controversy and so has Wolfenstein 2. it is being reported that German edition of the game has altered or you can basically say has censored Hitler in the game.
YouTuber CensoredGaming has made a video on the differences between censored and noncensored version and honestly it looks hilarious to me. you can check out the video below
Well as you can see in the second part of the video from 2:15 is the German version and it has removed Hitler little mustache and the phrase “Mein Fuhrer” has been changed to “Mein Chancellor” with changes in dialogue. further into the video at 2:40 you can see that the Swastika symbol has also been altered.
There are strict laws in Germany about the Nazism which are a bit complicated but it states that distribution or representation of any Nazi symbol through flag, insignia, uniform, slogan and any other products is a crime and the violator of this law can face a fine or 3-year prison sentence.
The removal of the swastika can be understandable because it’s literally the symbol of Nazi regime but the removal of mustache and changing of dialogues just makes no sense.
Anyways Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus has received a pretty good score from Metacritic with 89/100 for PC, 89/100 for PS4 and 87/100 for Xbox One and all major publication site have rated it 8 or above. but the reviews from steam users looks different.
Currently, the game has received 6/10 rating on steam with mixed reviews claiming that the game was just underwhelming or is a plain disappointment when compared to The New Order.
