Call Of Duty: WW2 Sexual Assault Scene Censored For Australia

Developer Sledgehammer Games and Publisher Activision have censored a scene in their upcoming game Call Of Duty: WW2 which according to Australian classification board implies sexual assault and may be harmful to the audience of the game.

According to the report from Kotaku Australia’s classification board for games and other media rated the game R18+ on 31 August 2017 but have on 17 October 2017 it was rated R18+ with a modification in consumer advice which states “Threat Of Sexual Violence”.

So what was the scene which offended the Australian Classification Board? Before you read about it below be warned that it contains spoiler from the game.

In one scene players will be playing as a French Female Spy Rousseau who happens to see a Nazi dragging a female into a room where he proceeds to sexually assault her but it can be interrupted if you player wants. more details are given below.

In one section of the game, the player controls Rosseau, a female spy, as she infiltrates a German building. While inside, she witnesses a woman as she is dragged by a Nazi soldier into a closet, against her will, screaming, “You’re all pigs!”

Rosseau opes the closet door, as the soldier says, “Leave. This is none of your business.” The player is then given the option to kill the soldier or leave.

If the player chooses to leave, the player closes the door, as the soldier is heard unziping his fly and viewed advancing towards the woman. She screams, “Ah! Get away from me!” as Rosseau leave.

The scene did not show or promote the actual violence but it still became unacceptable for Australian Board and so the developers had to apply some censorship to Call Of Duty: WW2. the female victim in the scene dress was changed from skirts and top to pants and top and the unzipping sound of the pant was also removed.

Neither Activision nor Sledgehammer Games have responded about the issue yet and can’t say much about their views. but what I don’t understand is that why the scene was even censored it was already rated R18+ which is meant for a mature audience.

I am assuming the scene may get censored in other regions just like Conan Exiles which was censored for North America, House Party which was also removed but come back after censorship, Fight Of Gods just got banned from Malaysian steam store and Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni which got removed from Australian and German steam store.
