Rick Santorum Blames Video Games For Las Vegas Shooting Tragedy
In the tragic incident in Las Vegas where at least 58 people got killed and 515 injured has become one of most heinous mass shooting in the history of United State Of America. the tragedy has sparked a new debate over gun control but politician Rick Santorum does not believe that the issue is gun control but instead its Video Games and Movies.
During a debate over gun control issue on news channel CNN, Republic Politician Rick Santorum and Jennifer Granholm, Former Governor of Michigan went on a word fight over each other. Granholm insisted that there should some reasonable strict rules on Guns and there should be a ban on Bump Stocks.
But according to Santorum the main issues with the violence like the Las Vegas Shooting is because there is no control over video games and movies which promote violent behavior. he further states that there are tons of evidence which never come out in the show. You can check out the 8-minute clip from the debate from YouTube Channel Dose of Dissonance
For those unable to hear clearly the words of Santurom due to people talking over each other below is his full statement
“Violence in television and the video games – there is a mountain of evidence out there, psychological evidence, about what we’re doing to our young people with these video games, violent video games, and you never hear the left trying to go after Hollywood or the gaming market,” It is never involved in this discussion. Where is the solution? Here we are. Where is the solution?”
Granholm was quick to respond to Rick Santorum absurd statement and pointed out that Japan too has access to almost same stuff and but still has far less death due to guns.
“Japan has hundred and twenty-five million people they don’t have any restrictions on any of the stuff…but they have one gun death in 2015…in hundred and twenty five people.”
And the statistics about Granholm claims can be found at Gunpolicy.org which reports that Japan had 9 death gun death in 2014 and has drastically decreased over years but in the USA there were 33,599 gun deaths which have increased over years you can check out the comparison chart between the USA and Japan gun death.
Blaming Video Games for violence, sexism, and misogyny has become quite common for a majority of politicians and mainstream media but they have no proof about it. in fact, Forbes and the Huffington articles have mentioned some of the research which finds no link to a video game being the cause of violence or sexism.
But even with proof, they won’t stop blaming video games and movies because it fits their narrative like the upcoming UK Art Museum exhibition which will be displaying sexism and violence in Video Games.
