PUBG PS4 Still Unconfirmed, Devs Focused On PC And Xbox Version
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds also known as PUBG has recently crossed Dota 2 for most concurrent numbers of player on Steam. if you visit steam stats page and check the history it will show PUBG topping both numbers of current players and Peak players in a single day.
The game is currently available on PC and will be soon arriving on Xbox Game Preview in late 2017 and with a full release in early 2018. but there is no clarification from devs if whether a PS4 version of the game is happening or not.
With Microsoft publishing, the battle royale game on consoles makes the situation even more confusing. it is still unclear if it exclusive or not and if it is to what extent does the deal go? is it a timed exclusive? or a permanent exclusive on Xbox Platform? also according to reports, the PS4 version work might not have even begun.
In an interview with Gameindustry Brendan Greene the director of PUBG was asked with Microsoft acquiring the publishing deal will the game ever come to PS4 to which Greene replied that the development team is just too busy and are completely focused on PC early access and Xbox’s upcoming Game preview program.
This is just, as I keep saying, our team size is just so limited at the moment. We can only focus on PC and Xbox. We just don’t have the time, and Xbox has the Preview Program, which allows us to – like Early Access – develop the game with the players. That’s where our focus is right now, and we just want to make the best version of the game for both of those platforms.
Eurogamer also interviewed Mike Ybarra the Corporate Vice President of Xbox & Windows gaming at Microsoft. he was questioned whether the game will be Xbox exclusive to which he replied
“We’re publishing it on Xbox and it’s a console launch exclusive,”…”we don’t like to answer on behalf of developers, so you’d have to ask Bluehole
“focus is entirely on the PC and Xbox, period, to get that done.”
When asked it is a timed or full exclusive he said
“It’s up to Bluehole. We’re not the developer.”
With both Microsoft and PUBG devs avoiding a clear answer on the situation gamers are surely getting pissed. but currently, it seems like it will be timed exclusive as I don’t think Bluehole will miss the opportunity to release the game on PS4 whose users base is almost twice of Xbox still it’s just my speculation so can’t say much.
