Hyper Universe English Version Censored Female Characters
Developer Cwavesoft 2D side scrolling game Hyper Universe has entered early access on 23 August 2017 for both North American and European region. the game itself is quite unique as it combines both MOBA genre with side scrolling where players clash with each other across various levels.
Apart from the unique game style it also has various characters known as Hypers each with different abilities and traits most of these fighters are female with varying body shapes and sizes. but now as the Korean game has been released in western region it also received some significant changes like most of the female characters body features have been toned down or more simply said has been censored.
In forum post in Nexon players who have played the Korean version noticed that the English version has been censored and all the changes have been made only to female characters. the boob size has been reduced with more clothing and almost total removal of boob physics.

Difference is in animation in Korean and English version
A community manager from Nexon named Raz responded to the issue he said that during alpha phase there was a long most heated discussion in the forum on how female are represented in the game and at the end, they decide that compromising on the busty characters with some censorship is best for everyone.
We want to keep the appeal of the female characters (and males for that matter!) while not offending anyone. We want to keep the artist’s integrity in-check, but make the game inviting to not only play, but watch as well.
we are compromising between the two parties. We want the game to be more accessible to people of all ages, occupations, etc. We heard more than a few times, in person and in private on-line, “Yeah, I wouldn’t want my daughter/son seeing this”. That is not a good image. It is painfully obvious the Asian and Western markets are different, or else we wouldn’t be doing these minimal changes to appeal to the Western market while keeping the overall artistic integrity in-check like I mentioned before.
When some member on the forum said that companies are now listening to SJWs who don’t even play the game. Raz responded to it as following
As for “SJW” – that’s just a buzz term. It’s not like we are scouring the internet looking for things wrong with the game and the art. The feedback we have gotten are from people who HAVE played the game and WANT to play, but due to things like having young children present or other reasons, don’t feel comfortable playing the game at home.
A few people have come to me in private explaining their reasoning, and what we saw in the alpha thread is that one person expressed his opinion, he got attacked fast. It’s possible people don’t want to post about it because yes, they may not care enough about the game to bother, or two, because they are afraid of being attacked from other forum members
Anyways Nexon will be going with the censorship route and Hyper Universe now joins other games like Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni, Granblue Fantasy, Conan Exiles and House Party who all have received some sort of censorship for the western audience.
But as always the gaming community knows how to work things out. players who want to play the Korean version of the game can visit Modder King Arthur’s guide and follow the 4 steps on how to restore the uncensored version.
Hyper Universe is performing quite well on steam and has mostly positive reviews so if you want to try the game it is available on Steam for $15.99. for the information, you can visit the official website or the steam page.
