Blizzard Wants To Increase Its Diversity By Hiring More Women
Entertainment will be launching a global diversity and inclusion initiatives a policy which is being made to increase the number of women in the company. under the new initiative, Blizzard will be hiring more women and other minorities to increase Diversity and Multiculturalism.
According to an internal company email received by Kotaku, only 21% of the workforce in the company are women. further, in the email President, Mike Morhaime report that women in their organization are leaving at a much higher rate than men and the numbers are similar in the whole gaming industry.
As a measure to solve the issues, the new initiative will focus on making the company a more welcoming place for women and minorities.
Morhaime says that the Diversity and Multiculturalism policy will first focus on women first and later will expand its focus on minority groups who make up 14% of workforces in the company.
He makes it clear the email that the company would not be setting any fixed quotas for hiring female candidates. but under its new initiative, it wants to recruit more qualified women and minorities first. he finally ends the email with the following statement.
“Our diversity initiative will require a commitment from every one of us, but especially from our leaders, managers, and hiring teams,”
“We appreciate your dedication to help Blizzard achieve this goal.”
Blizzard already had an LGBTQ Council and has recently created an all women Council which looks over and advises them on all projects. so with the new initiative, we may see more women and minorities and even more diversity in Blizzard’s upcoming games.
Blizzard’s Overwatch can be seen as a prime example of Diversity the game has become largely popular not just because of its gameplay but also because of the wide variety of characters and although it received massive criticism the results were quite positive.
