Microsoft Still Wants To Work With Sony On New Minecraft Update
Developer Mojang has announced that they will soon launch the new Better together update for Minecraft which will unify players from PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. the only platform missing this feature would be Sony’s PS3 and PS4 as they still haven’t agreed for to join the alliance.
But there is still hope for PlayStation owners as Mojang on its Official Website has published a post celebrating the upcoming new update. in the same post, they said that they are still working with Sony but haven’t progressed much.
we are still in discussions with Sony about PlayStation and have nothing to confirm. We would love to work with Sony to bring players on PlayStation 4 into this ecosystem as well.
During E3 2017 Both Microsoft and Nintendo announced the cross-play feature. Sony too was offered the proposal of bringing their platform to a unified ecosystem but they just refused it.
Later in an interview with Eurogamer Jim Ryan Sony’s Marketing Head was asked about the reason for it and he said that they are not against the cross platform feature but as Minecraft has a large user base of Kids so they do want to take any step which would bring them under bad influences or bad experiences.
Sony’s reasoning received backlash from its user base but they still haven’t commented anything more about it.
In a Giantomb live stream, Phil Spencer Microsoft’s Xbox boss responded to Sony’s reason with the following statement
“The fact that somebody would make an assertion that somehow we’re not keeping Minecraft players safe I found – not only from a Microsoft perspective, but from a game industry perspective – I don’t know why that has to become the dialogue,”
I just really found the whole discussion around safety in our game, and that somehow we wouldn’t take that as a top priority. We would never put Minecraft in a place where we felt like we weren’t keeping our players safe.
“Frankly, through the parental controls on Xbox Live and everything we’ve done, we’ve shown that [safety] is very important to us as a platform.”
Nobody knows what will be Sony’s ultimate decision but it’s surely under pressure from its community.
Moreover when all the other platforms will have a newer version of Minecraft. PlayStation users would be still playing the old Minecraft deprived of all the new features and fun.
The Better Together update is currently available in Beta phase for information about how to download it is available on the Minecraft official website.
