The beta started on 10 AM PDT on 18 July 2017 for PS4 users who pre-ordered the game. On 19 July it was available for Xbox users who pre-ordered the game and on 20 July it was made available for all the console users.
The Beta was supposed to end on 23 July but thankfully it has been extended for 2 more days so now it will end on 25 July at 6 PM PDT. it will be good news for people who were unable to get into the game because of not having any time or because of the potato internet which took days to download it.
The main objective of Destiny 2 beta is to test the game and polish out all the bugs and glitches so when it releases it will be of good quality. Bungie has already made several to the game like optimizing weapon damage, NPC improvement, and some other minor changes.

Nothing more has been announced yet but most probably there will be no new updates during the extended period.
The new social space the Farm was open for one hour yesterday so due to limited window many people missed it. so the addition of Farm will be good for the fans. currently, you can only play Homecoming mission and other multiplayer like the crucible and the inverted strike missions.
