Hindu Statesman Asks Sony To Represent Hinduism With Respect In Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Developer Naughty Dogs and Publisher Sony are upcoming with their latest game Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. the game will be feature Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross as the main character and takes inspiration from Hinduism and its mythology. the game is set in deep Indian mountain ruins where Chloe and Nadine will be searching for an ancient artifact The Tusk of Ganesha an Indian God.
But even before the game release Rajan Zed a Hindu Statesman and President of the Universal Society of Hinduism has shown his concern about the direction and representation of the Hindu religion and its tradition in the game.
In a press release in Nevada, USA Zed said he hopes that Sony will represent Hinduism and its tradition, temples, and gods with accuracy and respect as it is portrayed in Hindu Scriptures and they should avoid the fantasized or re-imagined style of the religion.
He further said that he expects there will be no problem with professionals at work and want just want the game worker to be more careful while working with religion.
With seasoned and skillful professionals at the helm, we do not expect any problem…
Video-game makers should be more sensitive while handling faith related subjects, as these games were a powerful medium which left lasting impact on the unsuspecting minds of highly impressionable children, teens and other young people.
This is not the first time for Rajan Zed to question the portrayal of Hindu religion in games. previously he criticized the Hi-Rez Studio’s game Smite for misrepresentation of Goddesses Kali which later forced developers to remove images of Kali from their website.
But he did not stop there he even called for the ban of Smite and asked for the removal of Kali, Agni, and Vamana from the game. but it did not happen and now Hi-Rez has added five more Indian God and Demon Ganesha, Ram, Kumbha Karna, Ravana, and Bakasura.
Another confrontation of Zed was with Blizzard Entertainment’s game Overwatch where he urged the company to remove to Symmetra’s Devi Skin. the reason was the skull decoration and blue skin has a resemblance to Indian Goddesses Kali and is misrepresenting her but Blizzard did not accept it.
It would be interesting to see what Ubisoft decide in regards to religious issues of the game. do they please the Hindus or just go Blizzard and Hi-rez away.
Anyways Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be releasing on 22 August 2017 exclusively for PS4 for more information you can visit the Official Website.
