Publisher and Developer Square Enix MMORPG game Final Fantasy XIV has been a huge success thanks to Naoki Yoshida the director of the game .it has received a positive review for its solid gameplay mechanics and progression.
Recently a second expansion has been released named Stromblood and is still only available on PC and PS4. but it may be soon available on other platforms like Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
In a recent talk between Kotaku and Naoki Yoshida at the E3 2017 event said that he is still interested in bringing the game to Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and he has been in talks with the Microsoft’s Xbox Head and also with the management of Nintendo about the game.
“I’ve said this on several occasions, but it hasn’t changed. We would love for as many players to be on FFXIV as possible.” and further said “Conversations have been had with Mr. Phil Spencer of Microsoft, and the upper management teams of Nintendo.”
But Yoshida has a condition which both the companies should agree on and that is the cross-play support.
I have proposed a condition every time I speak with any platform manufacturers. It’s that the game has to have the capability of cross-platform play.
He also further states that getting the companies agree on certain guidelines and policy sometimes becomes troublesome because most companies do not have proper regulation on online activities, especially for MMORPG games.
“we have to be responsible for taking care of those communities. It would become an obstacle if the first-party or manufacturer changed how patches are being implemented or online regulations.”
“Those can become a hurdle when we consider operating FFXIV for an extended period of time, and so when I talk to those first-party companies, I ask them, ‘Do you have the capability to prepare for that, do you have the resolve that you’re going to make sure to take responsibility and take care of those, do you have that willingness?”
I don’t think Microsoft and Nintendo will have any problem with the cross-platform play between Xbox and Switch as during the E3 2017 it was announced that Xbox and Switch will now support cross-platform play with two biggest games Minecraft and Rocket League. though it possible that Final Fantasy XIV may require some different type agreement than the other two games.
But the same cannot be said for Sony as they were the only platform who refused to join the cross-play features and the reason they gave was that it will expose children from PlayStation to external influences which agitated most of Playstation owners.
