Sony’s Wierd Reason On Blocking Crossplay Option For MineCraft and Rocket League.

Sony recently reported that they have sold more than 60 million PS4 units as of 11 June 2017 with more than 70 million monthly active users worldwide as of the end of March 2017 in its PlayStation ecosystem. but seems like this time they have pissed off this massive user base.

Recently during the Microsoft’s E3 conference, it was announced that the cross-platform play feature will be coming to one of the biggest game around Minecraft and VR Minecraft and the crossplay will support Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC but not PS4.

Later during Nintendo’s E3 conference, it was announced that Rocket League will be coming to Nintendo Switch with crossplay feature will support Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC and again this will not be available for PS4.

It was later revealed that Sony was offered the proposal for the cross play but they refused it. BUT WHY?

In a recent interview by Eurogamer.net with Sony’s Marketing Head Jim Ryan, he was questioned about blocking the most wanted feature on the Playstation to which he answered.

It’s certainly not a profound philosophical stance we have against this. We’ve done it in the past. We’re always open to conversations with any developer or publisher who wants to talk about it. Unfortunately it’s a commercial discussion between ourselves and other stakeholders, and I’m not going to get into the detail of that on this particular instance. And I can see your eyes rolling.

After this, he was asked that their decision has pissed off a large player base of Playstation and they have not yet given an explanation to gamers on why they have blocked one of the most wanted feature? he which he replied

Yeah. We’ve got to be mindful of our responsibility to our install base. Minecraft – the demographic playing that, you know as well as I do, it’s all ages but it’s also very young. We have a contract with the people who go online with us, that we look after them and they are within the PlayStation curated universe. Exposing what in many cases are children to external influences we have no ability to manage or look after, it’s something we have to think about very carefully.

The reason given by Jim Ryan is basically that they are not against the cross play feature but they need to protect children online from bad influences and going for cross play feature will risk it which they do not want.

The reason is good and a matter of concern but honestly according to me this is certainly not the main reason for blocking crossplay.

Whatever it is i hope Sony get in touch with its userbase soon and explain it.
