PS4 Pro Sales Rising, 1 in 5 PlayStations sold is PS4 Pro
In 2016 Sony released a new version of PS4 The PS4 PRO. it is an upgraded version with a better processor and more a powerful GPU. the difference in specs of PS4 and PS4 PRO is quite significant
- PS4 has 1.6GHz 8-core AMD Jaguar and PS4 Pro has 2.1GHz 8-core AMD Jaguar.
- PS4 has 1.84 TFLOP AMD Radeon GPU and PS4 Pro has 4.2 TFLOP AMD Radeon.
- PS4 has 8GB GDDR5 and PS4 PRO has 8GB GDDR5 & 1GB.
Apart from the above difference the rest of specs are same like Wifi, Bluetooth and HDR supports.
The main performance difference in both the variants is that PS4 Pro supports the 4K resolution and the new more powerful processor and GPU makes the resolution more sharpers, smoother and making it look more realistic.
But many speculated that the PS4 Pro would not perform well in the market. as both the console can run all the games and also there are currently no PS4 Pro Exclusive games. so paying extra to pay games seemed illogical to speculators. but this all proved to be wrong.
In a recent interview with Times Magazine Sony’s Executive Jim Ryan said that PS4 Pro has been a success and it was not expected even by the company. he also revealed that 1 out of 5 PlayStation sold is a PS4 Pro.
“We were confident about the product but have really been taken aback by how well it’s done. Almost one in five PlayStations sold since that launch in November has been a Pro. That’s significantly ahead of our expectations. We’re feeling pretty good about that.”
The increase in PS4 Pro sales does indicate that customers want the best regardless of the price. Sony has already sold a whopping 60 million PS4 unit and it is quite ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox and we may soon see PS4 Pro crossing that sales number too.
“It’s been pleasing that in North America, we’ve been 2-to-1 against Xbox. “But in Europe, it’s really been fortress PlayStation by at least 3-to-1 in unit sales.” Ryan said.
